To commemorate his 56th birthday, Russian President Vladimir Putin has created an instructional judo video.
Let’s Learn Judo with Vladimir Putin depicts the president, a black belt and former St Petersburg judo champion, tossing opponents to the ground.
It was put up by Putin and other judo warriors, including former world and Olympic champion Yasuhiro Yamashita.
Other parts of the production feature the prime minister discussing the history and philosophy of martial arts.
During a presentation to journalists and other guests, Putin stated that anybody viewing the DVD “would be learning not from your humble servant but from actual geniuses” of judo, referring to the DVD’s title as a “commercial ploy.”
“In a combat, compromises and concessions are possible, but only in one situation – if it is for victory,” Putin advises viewers.
Putin, a former KGB spy and avid skier, has not been hesitant about flaunting his athletic abilities.
Sport, according to Putin, reflects a country’s health.
“Undoubtedly, the degree of growth of sports indicates the level of development of the country itself,” he continued.
“It is difficult to speak about a healthy way of life, of national health, without sports.”
