An aging workforce is one of the challenges that HR must address. While HR must and should handle this compassionately, there are several concerns and difficulties that may create a legal quagmire. Not only must HR address concerns including the FMLA and the ADA, but they must also be cautious of age discrimination issues. Employees who declare their desire to retire or move out of full-time work complicate matters for HR. Is it appropriate to include them in these discussions? What if they decide to alter their minds? What if you’re too far into the changeover to make any changes? Are you a party to “pushing them out” due to their age? This lecture will answer these and other questions. The ADA and age-related disability, the FMLA and age-related leave, the ADEA, and the OWBPA will all receive special attention. The session will instruct HR on how to legally deal and manage an aging workforce as well as employees on their “farewell tour.”
