The Practical Grappler is a 6-hour video (three 2-hour DVD videos) introduction to grappling from the perspective of a beginner, carefully organized to start someone with no grappling knowledge and build a solid foundation with simple and effective techniques.
This 6-hour video production contains approximately 200 techniques.
The techniques are taught STARTING FROM THE BEGINNING and leading you through a step by step process, each step building on the one before, until your grappling foundation is complete.
The techniques in the practical grappler are performed without the use of a gi.
Of course, most no-gi techniques also work with the gi.
The following sections describe the seven video phases.

1) Principles Overview: The first step in this process is to explain the “Essentials for Success,” which paints a general picture of what you will be learning and important concepts to remember as you progress.

2) Common movements: This phase teaches you the basic movements you’ll need to train your body to do in order to practice fundamentally sound grappling.

3) Position Defense: When you first start grappling, you will be constantly submitted due to fundamental positioning errors.
This phase teaches you the fundamentals of what you should do in various grappling positions to avoid giving up an easy submission to your training partners.

4) Escape and Transition: This phase teaches you how to escape from pins and pass the guard, as well as how to transition into advantageous positions and perform some basic submissions from inferior positions (That is, escape by submission of your opponent)

5) Submission Defenses: In this phase, you will learn how to defend against and escape from your opponent’s submission attempts.

6) Pinning and Transition: This phase teaches you how to keep your dominant position and prepare to submit your opponent.
