Hello and welcome to YOUnConsulting!
Who is this course intended for?
If you are, then this is the course for you.
An undergraduate or postgraduate student interested in exploring or pursuing a career in management consulting as your major career option.
A young professional (with some prior job experience) considering a career in management consulting.
A knowledge multiplier or middleman who serves or regularly engages with consultants for professional reasons and benefits from acquiring a better grasp of the lives and difficulties of a consultant.
Who is your teacher?
My name is Dr. Jörg Leib. I am a consulting enthusiast who spent five years as a consultant and project manager with McKinsey & Company, the world’s largest management consulting company, and have subsequently worked as an independent management adviser.
I interned at numerous respected consulting companies before joining McKinsey, including Roland Berger and EY. I’ve interviewed with all of the big tier 1 and tier 2 consulting firms and attended their recruitment events. To this day, I am still extremely enthusiastic about my business, conducting extensive research and cultivating a strong network of other consultants at these premier consulting companies in order to deliver the greatest insights to YOU.
I routinely educate, excite, and advise fresh applicants and seasoned professionals about their successful admission, rise, and leave as consultants as part of the YOUinConsulting project. Apart from providing first-rate information, as one would expect from a former McKinsey consultant, I place a high importance on well-structured didactics as well as a very interesting and innovative presenting style. Let us be professional while yet having fun!
What’s the catch?
Summary
By the end of this course, you will know whether or not a consulting job is truly a good fit for YOU. You will learn what consulting is genuinely about (behind the hype) and how daily consulting life may feel for YOU. To summarize, you will understand consulting and will profit from these insights for the remainder of your consulting career.
At the same time, as a former McKinsey consultant, current independent management adviser, and consulting industry specialist, you can be certain of receiving honest and truthful insights into the consulting business. Last but not least, I have poured my heart and energy into this course to ensure that you not only make the best decisions for yourself, but also have fun while doing so… Check it out for yourself! 😉
This course is divided into three sections:
PART A: Determine whether you REALLY want to be a consultant.
You’re probably taking this course because you’re thinking about becoming a consultant and/or want to see if management consulting is the right career for you.
This is fantastic! However, I am aware that there is a lot of hype and misinformation in my profession. As a result, I’d like to first assist you in ensuring that you pursue a consulting profession for the proper reasons!
I created the interactive YOUinConsulting job exam for this aim. I will ask you to rate your own motivating factors for becoming a consultant at the start of this test. I will then reveal if each of these consulting myths is true or untrue for you, and you will obtain a unique test result indicating how well your ambitions and expectations about a consulting profession match the reality of consulting life.
While I want to start where you are – an emotional idea about consulting that entices you to become a consultant – I want to make sure that even while taking this test, you gain a lot of surprising insider insights about our industry that I promise will benefit you for the rest of your consulting career!
Please refer to the course curriculum for the exact subjects that I will cover as part of the YOUinConsulting job exam.
PART B: Discover the true meaning of consultation.
Following these emotional highlights from your own consulting career and life, I provide you a thorough introduction to the consulting sector in this second half. I’ll start by explaining in layman’s terms why consultants are employed, what services consulting companies provide, and how they’re organized.
Since I believe you would enjoy working at McKinsey, BCG, or Bain, I then go into the strategy consulting market. After providing you with some interesting statistics and data, I will give my thoughts on important players (tier one and tier two organizations), challengers (boutique consulting firms, in-house consulting firms, and smaller and medium-sized consulting firms), and the Big Four corporations in particular (Deloitte, PwC, EY and KPMG). You will be able to appreciate the similarities and contrasts between these players, as well as obtain more suggestions on desirable employers outside McKinsey, BCG, and Bain.
Furthermore, I expose three megatrends that are now shaking up the consulting sector and that I believe you should be aware of as soon as possible. I go over the consequences of each of these megatrends for your consulting career and decisions.
PART C: Gain clarity on your personal consulting job path and life.
I return to the personal and individual parts of your consulting profession in the third section of this course.
First, I will assist you in exploring the many levels on the consulting career ladder and in understanding the various roles you may play over your consulting career.
Second, I will encourage you to participate in an interesting experiment called “consulting meditations,” in which I want to allow you to feel the light and shade of consulting life firsthand.
And there’s a lot more… I am delighted to welcome you within our course:-)
