Experiencing the Canyon of Why

Early in my employment, I encountered individuals and families who had suffered loss as a result of significant and difficult reasons of death, such as suicide, homicide, accidental, and ambiguous losses. The majority of them had already attempted to seek assistance from one or more community grief support options without success. As a Certified Thanatologist and a Forensic Suicidologist, I was worried about the clients’ lack of comprehension.

I’ve spent the last thirty years getting to know this grieving process and finding ways that people find useful. Working with grief responses following both man-made and natural causes of death has prepared me to provide a path for others to more effectively assist the newly bereaved in recovering faster.

In this audio, I will discuss what has helped clients in the United States and throughout the world heal from the universal experience known as abrupt and devastating loss. I will assist you in stocking your therapy backpack with critical clinical methods that will securely take you and your clients through the path of difficult mourning.

Frank R. Campbell, Ph.D., LCSW, Certified Thanatologist, and Senior Consultant with Campbell and Associates Consulting, LLC, created the Active Postvention Model (APM), often known as the LOSS (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) Team. Dr. Campbell’s 30-year career in suicidology continues, including consulting and training. He is a forensic suicidology expert witness and a former president of the American Association of Suicidology (1996-1997).

Dr. Campbell’s work has been featured in three Discovery Channel documentaries, and he has received the Dr. Norman Farberow award from the International Association of Suicide Prevention (IASP) for his international service to suicide survivors, the Louis Dublin Award from the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) for contributions to the field of Suicidology, and the Roger J. Tierney service award. The Louisiana State University School of Social Work recognized him Alumnus of the Year, and the Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers named him Social Worker of the Year (NASW).
