COVID Brain… the unlucky sequel for many COVID-19 survivors.
Unfortunately, many people who have contracted and recovered from COVID-19 are still experiencing neurological consequences such as disorientation, headaches, behavioral abnormalities, and even stroke.
Furthermore, the COVID-19 epidemic has caused widespread psychological suffering among the general populace. This degree of stress has induced changes in the immune system and the brain, manifesting as anxiety, sadness, and even violence.
Betsy Shandalov is an Occupational Therapist, trained yoga therapist, Reiki practitioner, and Ayurvedic wellness coach with decades of expertise utilizing integrative medicine to heal trauma for staff and patients.
Ms. Shandalov will demonstrate how integrative medicine treatments such as Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, and breathwork can not only promote brain neuroplasticity in the general population but also in clients who have recovered from COVID-19 infection in this session. Ms. Shandalov will discuss the most recent studies on the SARS-CoV-2 virus and its effect on the brain, as well as how to incorporate these centuries-old practices into your patients’ therapy.
Betsy Shandalov, OTR/L, C-IAYT AWC, is a holistic Occupational Therapist with experience in rehabilitation, community re-entry, and education settings. Her broad experience working with adults and children in a number of settings, along with her complementary holistic therapies, provides a new level of awareness of how the brain and immune system work together for natural and therapeutic recovery. Betsy teaches clients how to empower themselves to prevent injury, heal an existing injury, and manage pain and trauma throughout their lives. She works with people and families to help them find balance in their minds and bodies through the use of Ayurveda, Yoga therapy, Meditation, and Mindfulness.
Betsy is a qualified yoga therapist via the International Association of Yoga Therapists and a Yoga Kids International instructor and trainer. She has received advanced trauma training from The Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, D.C., and she is a Level I Reiki practitioner. She recently finished her Ayurvedic Medicine Training for Wellness Coaching and published a chapter on Meditation in an Integrative Medicine Textbook for Rehab Professionals this year.
