Barbara Tversky, a psychologist, demonstrates in Mind in Motion that spatial cognition is not simply a subset of mind, but its essential base, allowing us to derive meaning from our bodies and their motions in the environment. Our acts in physical space are transformed into mental actions on thinking, which frequently erupt spontaneously from our bodies as gestures. Barbara Tversky is Emerita Professor of Psychology at Stanford University and Professor of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She is also the Association for Psychological Science’s President. Tversky has written over 200 research publications on memory, spatial thinking, design, and creativity, and he often lectures about embodied cognition at international multidisciplinary conferences and workshops. Dr. Tversky graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA, MA, and PhD in Cognitive Psychology.
