This workshop focuses on the use of cognitive-behavioral strategies as an adjunct to the many treatment modalities available in couples therapy. It provides a basic overview of cognitive-behavioral therapy theories, particularly as they apply to couples. Participants will get direct experience with approaches and tactics for dealing with problematic couples, as well as how to integrate these strategies into their individual styles of therapy. The talk is followed by a videotape that shows the strategies and interventions in action.

Objectives of Education:

Explain three cognitive-behavioral techniques for working with couples.
Describe how these strategies can be incorporated into other modes of communication.
When to use behavioral rather than cognitive strategies.
