Levine, PhD, is a medical biophysicist and a psychologist. He created Somatic Experiencing®, a naturalistic, body-awareness approach to trauma treatment, and founded the Somatic Experiencing® Trauma Institute, which offers SETM trainings all over the world and in diverse indigenous cultures. Dr. Levine’s other accomplishments include serving as a stress consultant for NASA during the development of the space shuttle project and as a consultant to Sandia Labs during their 2002 study on terrorism prevention commissioned by the Department of Homeland Security. Dr. Levine was a member of the American Psychological Association’s Task Force: Psychologists for Social Responsibility, which developed solutions to large-scale disasters and ethno-political violence.
