The American Osteopathic Association has approved the Maine Osteopathic Association to offer doctors with osteopathic continuing medical education.

Dr. Alane O’Connor, DNP, is a family medicine resident at Maine Dartmouth and a member of the medical staff at MaineGeneral Medical Center. Her professional expertise focuses on addiction medicine and the use of buprenorphine to treat opioid use disorders. Over the last 10 years, she has built an integrated medical and behavioral health treatment program that has assisted hundreds of opioid-dependent pregnant women. Dr. O’Connor’s groundbreaking research on the effects of buprenorphine on infant outcomes during pregnancy has been published in numerous journals, including the Journal of Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine, the Journal of Perinatal Medicine, European Addiction Research, the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment, and the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She also strives to increase access to medication-assisted treatment in the primary care environment by training other doctors and practices as co-chair of MaineGeneral’s opioid steering group. She is an adjunct professor at Dartmouth Medical School and Vanderbilt University, where she directs the residency’s addiction medicine teaching. She also works as a peer reviewer for several journals.

DO Merideth Norris, FACOFP, FASAM

Dr. Merideth Norris has been practicing for over 15 years in Maine. Her practice encompasses Osteopathic Family Medicine as well as the treatment of substance abuse disorders, obesity, and pain management. She has experience working in emergency rooms around Maine, as well as detox facilities, inpatient treatment settings, methadone clinics, and outpatient rehabilitation programs. Dr. Norris maintains a private practice in addition to being the Medical Director of Enso Recovery. Dr. Norris is board certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Medicine in Osteopathic Family Medicine, the American Board of Addiction Medicine in Addiction Medicine, and the American Board of Obesity Medicine in Obesity Medicine.

She is regularly seen in the press campaigning for more services for persons suffering from substance use disorders, and she prepares extensive testimony for state legislation on opioid policy and treatment access. She has been on both local public radio and the national Reelz network as an addiction specialist. Dr. Norris recently became a USA Boxing Ringside Physician and the medical consultant for Susan Elia MacNeal, author of the Maggie Hope mystery series. Dr. Norris is the father of three children.

ENSO Recovery’s executive director is Steve Danzig. Enso Recovery now offers outpatient drug abuse and mental health condition therapy in Westbrook and Sanford. They offer MAT treatments, structured sober living, and are highly involved with the Maine Department of Corrections, with numerous programs planned to launch in conjunction with county prisons to give MAT and treatment to inmates around the state. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, a Certified Clinical Supervisor, and a Certified Intervention Professional. Since the late 1990s, Steve has worked in the treatment sector. Mercy Hospital detoxification program, Preble Street Resource Center and Teen Center, Serenity House (adult men’s halfway house), 12 years in private practice, executive director of New Freedom Academy in New Hampshire (young adult primary residential substance use disorder treatment), and professional interventionist for 15 years working throughout the United States are among his professional experiences.

Dr. Py has been practicing Addiction Medicine in Maine for 28 years, with 24 of those years spent treating people with Opioid Use Disorder utilizing Medication Assisted Treatment. He is Board Certified in Family Practice, a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine, and a recipient of the American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine’s Certificate of Added Qualification in Addiction Medicine. He also holds certifications in Environmental Medicine, Nutritional Medicine, and Medical Hypnosis. He is now the Medical Director of the outpatient comprehensive opioid use disorder treatment facilities Healthcare Resource Centers in Portland and Lewiston.

Kelley Harmon, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Kelley Harmon graduated from UNECOM in 2005 and is a board certified osteopathic family physician and faculty member at the Maine Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency Program (MDFMR), where she performs full spectrum care with an emphasis on obstetrics and pediatrics. She is particularly interested in opiate addiction treatment during pregnancy, group visit models of care, and interprofessional education. Dr. Harmon is the Director of Pre-Doctoral Education at MDFMR, the Regional Assistant Dean for the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, and a clinical faculty member at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine and Tufts University School of Medicine.
