In 2004, Judge Benton was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He previously served for 13 years on the Missouri Supreme Court (including two years as Chief Justice). He received honors from Northwestern University and Yale Law School (serving as Law Journal managing editor).

Pratzel, Alan

Chief Disciplinary Counsel’s Office

In April 2007, the Missouri Supreme Court named Alan Pratzel as Chief Disciplinary Counsel. Mr. Pratzel manages the system in Missouri that receives, investigates, and litigates ethical complaints against lawyers. In 1985, he began working for the attorney discipline system as a Special Representative in the City of St. Louis. Prior to becoming Chief Disciplinary Counsel, Mr. Pratzel worked in private practice in St. Louis for 30 years, handling many forms of litigation. He also teaches Professional Responsibility as an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri School of Law in Columbia and the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis.

Rittman, Sara

Sara Rittman is an Assistant Attorney General, unit head, and member of the Professional Responsibility Committee of the office. She worked in private practice, as Missouri’s first Legal Ethics Counsel, and at OCDC for 26 years, practicing legal ethics and attorney disciplinary law. She worked in the licensing section as an AAG from 1981 to 1993.
