Alan Freed has been representing clients in family court disputes since 1983, focusing on a problem-solving approach to family law issues, with a concentration on mediation and collaborative practice, as well as a significant appellate practice. He has been with Paule, Camazine & Blumenthal, PC since its inception in 1994. Mr. Freed is a co-author of the West Group’s “Missouri Appellate Practice” Vol. 24, 2nd edition. He is a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and has been named to the lists of “Best Lawyers in America” and “Missouri Kansas Super Lawyers.” Mr. Freed was selected “Lawyer of the Year” for St. Louis in the fields of Collaborative Law: Family in 2013 and 2018, Mediation in 2017, and Family Law Mediation in 2015. He was also named “Best Mediation Attorney” in a Missouri Lawyers Weekly survey in 2009. Mr. Freed and Alisse Camazine co-wrote Divorce in Missouri, a practical layman’s handbook, in 2009. Mr. Freed is a previous president of Kids In the Middle and a founding member of the Collaborative Family Law Association. Mr. Freed is an AFCC member. He has given presentations on family law and mediation themes at both local and national conventions. Mr. Freed has authored numerous articles in his fields, is the author of the chapter on Mediation and Other Forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution for the MoBar Family Law CLE Deskbook, and contributed a chapter to “Understanding Collaborative Family Law” titled “Mental Health and Financial Experts: Key Components of the Collaborative Process” (Aspatore, 2011). From 2001 until 2016, he taught Family Mediation as an adjunct professor at Washington University School of Law.

Mr. Freed earned his B. Mus. in 1974 from Kent State University and his J.D. in 1983 from Washington University School of Law.

Circuit Court of Greene County

The Right Honorable Susan S. Jensen practiced family law in Springfield until being appointed as Greene County’s Family Court Commissioner, Division II, in 2016. She is an American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Fellow. Commissioner Jensen earned a bachelor’s degree from William Jewell College and a law degree from the University of Iowa.

He is a Fellow and President-Elect of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, as well as a Diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers and a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers.

In Columbia, South Carolina, James T. McLaren practices statewide family law with an emphasis on difficult marital disputes. He is a member of the legal firm McLaren & Lee. Since becoming a Fellow, he has served the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in a variety of positions, including National President in 2015. He was named AAML Fellow of the Year in 2007 and will receive the AAML Professionalism Award in 2020. He is a member of several Academy Committees. He has been on the Board of the AAML Foundation, where he is presently an Advisory Board member. He has served as President and National Delegate for the Academy’s South Carolina Chapter. He is a member of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers’ Executive Committee and is a Diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers. He is an International Academy of Family Lawyers Fellow. He is now the President of the International Network of Boutique Law Firms’ South Carolina Chapter. He now serves on the Family Law Council of the South Carolina Bar and was named to the President’s Task Force on Alimony. Mr. McLaren has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America, Family Law Designation, since 1993, and has gotten a “AV” rating from Martindale Hubbell since 1996. He has also been listed in the South Carolina Super Lawyers publication since 2008. He helped write the South Carolina Equitable Apportionment Act (20-7-741 et seq., S.C. Code of Laws) and the South Carolina Alimony Statute (20-3-130, S.C. Code of Laws). Mr. McLaren got his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina in 1973 and his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1976. He was admitted to the bar in 1976 and has since established a private practice in Columbia, South Carolina. He is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a regular speaker on numerous family law subjects for the South Carolina Bar, American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, American Bar Association, South Carolina Association for Justice, Mandatory Judicial and Continuing Legal Education Seminars, and the American Bar Association. He has taught at the ABA/NITA Family Law Trial Advocacy Institute, which is held yearly in Boulder, Colorado.

Sherrill L. Rosen was appointed as Commissioner in 1994. She worked on the adult abuse legislation in Missouri and handled the constitutional challenge to it. She frequently acted as a guardian ad litem. She was awarded the KCMBA Moorhouse Dedication to Children award, as well as the MOLW Women’s Justice Award.

Courthouse of Boone County

Associate Circuit Judge, Division X, Hon. Leslie Schneider, was elected to the court in 2006 and re-elected in 2010 and 2014. Division X is in charge of all family law proceedings, including juvenile, divorce, and adult abuse dockets. Judge Schneider is the Family Court’s administrative judge. Judge Schneider holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia and a law degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia.

Judge Schneider worked in private practice in Columbia with the legal firm of Harper, Evans, Schneider, and Netemeyer before being elected to the court. Judge Schneider formerly served as a Municipal Judge for the City of Columbia as well as an Assistant Attorney General. The Elwood Thomas Inn of Court was founded by Judge Schneider. She serves on the Access to Family Courts Committee and the Family Court Committee. She has taught family law as an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Law. Tom Schneider, Judge Schneider’s husband, is an attorney in Columbia. They have two kids and two grandkids.

Richard Van Pelt is a stakeholder in the Springfield, Missouri-based law firm Van Pelt & Van Pelt, P.C. He attended Pittsburg State University in 1980 and the University of Missouri School of Law (1983). He is an American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Fellow. He is an American College of Family Trial Lawyers Diplomate. Since 2001, he has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America. He was voted 2014 Lawyer of the Year for Family Law in Springfield, Missouri by Best Lawyers in America. He was named the Roger P. Krum Family Law Practitioner of the Year by the Missouri Bar in 2015. Since the classification was introduced by U.S. News – Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” for Family Law, the law firm of Van Pelt & Van Pelt, PC has been named Tier I each year. Since the designation’s inception, he has been designated a “Missouri Super Lawyer” each year. He is the Missouri Delegate to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers’ Board of Governors. He is a past President of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers’ Missouri Chapter. He belongs to the Missouri Bar Association as well as the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association. Mr. Richard Whiting

In 1972, Dick Whiting graduated from Presbyterian College. Dick returned to his birthplace of Miami, Florida, after graduating from PC, and began working in the international shipping industry. In 1980, he obtained his Master of Business Administration from Florida International University and returned to South Carolina. Dick received his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in December 1982. Dick has largely practiced Family Law and Federal and State “Wiretap” Law since graduating from law school.

Dick has held several positions in the South Carolina Bar’s Family Law Section Council (including previous president) and presently serves in the House of Delegates. In addition, he is a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Dick’s practice is still focused on Family Law and Electronic Communication Privacy Law. He has spoken at a number of Continuing Legal Education Seminars and other settings, including lectures to freshly elected judges, private investigators, and other organizations interested in privacy problems.
